John Edwin Horn December 25, 1934 - March 27, 2011 John Edwin Horn of Lorena passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Scott and White Hospital. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Pastor Billy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Born on Christmas Day 1934 to Wilty Horn and Ruby Massey Horn, a farming/coal mining family of 13 children, in Greenville, Kentucky, John was the 4th child born into the family. John was in the U.S. Army between 1953 and 1956. After the military, John hitch-hiked to Chicago, Illinois. There he met the love of his life, Anna Mae. They met through John's brother, Bill, who was married to Ann's sister, Eunice. While in Chicago, John worked as a window washer with his brothers, Bill, Tom, Bob and Bud. John was the highest paid window washer in Chicago at that time. On July 7, 1977, John and his family settled in Waco. While in Waco, he was a home builder, real estate developer and owner, owner and operator of Waco Escavating, and owner and operator of Speegleville Harbor Marina, where he designed and built over 30 houseboats between 1987 - 1997. John loved and enjoyed vacations and traveling with family and friends, boating, cars, playing cards and 42. He loved his grandchildren. He loved to watch Carol Ann participate in cheerleading and dance, and he loved watching Caleb play football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He attended all of their events at China Spring High School. He was so proud of both of them. John was a member of Brazos Meadows Baptist Church for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Pamela Sue; grandson, Jonathon Wade; brothers, Tom, William, Bob, and Bud; and sisters, Mary and Doris. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Anna Mae Ann; son, Johnnie Horn and wife, Marcia, of Hewitt; daughters, Shelly Horn Cawthon and husband, Matt, of China Spring, and Donna Horn of Dallas; grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb and Carol Ann; other grandchildren and great grandchildren by marriage, Jake and wife, Rebecca, and daughter, Samantha; John and wife, Layne; Katie, Christa and daughter, Olivia; and Dustin. Also surviving are his siblings, brother, Bill, and sisters, Margie, Ann, Betty, Susie and Laura. Pallbearers are Johnnie Horn, Caleb McCaig, Bill Horn, Matt Cawthon, Jeff Carter and John Cawthon. Honorary pallbearers are Melvin Fullerton, Charles Derrick, Gene Huey and Don Wallace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brazos Meadows Baptist Church Building Fund, 625 Hewitt Dr., Hewitt, TX 76633.
