John J. Wiggers August 6, 1917 – March 14, 2007 John J. Wiggers died Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Services will be at 1:30 p.m, Saturday March 17 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Funeral Home with Mr. David Harder of North Texas officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 16 from 5 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. John J. Wiggers was born in New Jersey, August 6, 1917 and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. As a youth he was active in the Boy Scouts. Through funding of a basketball scholarship, he graduated from Morehead University, Morehead, KY with a Bachelor of Arts. His basketball career continued after graduation as he played professional basketball with a team sponsored by Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Co., earning the nickname, Big John. He married Maxine Daugherty, October 18, 1941 and pursued a career in human resources with General Tire & Rubber, Co. He transferred from Indiana to Waco in 1967 as personnel director of the General Tire Waco Plant. Upon retiring from General Tire, John served as vice-president of human resources with InterFirst Bank of Waco. John was a gifted public speaker and an active community volunteer. In Indiana, John was president of the local Rotary Club, Successful Chairman of the United Fund Drive, a Red Cross Board Member and active in the National Association of Manufacturers. After moving to Texas, John served as board member of Waco’s Salvation Army, Chapter Chairman of the Heart of Texas Council for the Boy Scouts of America, Industrial Relations Chairman and Executive Board Member for the Texas Manufacturers Assoc. John in his later years dedicated several years as a volunteer ombudsmen for the State of Texas in representing nursing home patients. He is dearly remembered for his devoted love of God and family, sense of humor, and advocacy toward others in need. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine and daughter, Mary Jo Iosue. He is survived by son, Jack; daughter, Susan; granddaughters, Maria and Monica Iosue, Debi Milton and grandson, Dr. David Burch.
