JOHN LANDRUM John M. Landrum, 92, of Waco, died Friday, January 11, 2002 at his residence. Services will be 10:00a.m. Tuesday, January 15 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Patrick Miller officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00p.m. with a Masonic graveside service at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Monday January 14 at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Landrum was born in Georgetown, Texas on May 22, 1909. He graduated from Taylor High School in 1928 and from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Entomology in 1932. Mr. Landrum served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the EAME Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars. Mr. Landrum was married to Mary Gurley Bryan at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco in 1937. They moved to Waco in 1942 where they lived until moving to Memphis, Tennessee in 1957. They returned to Waco in 1967. Mr. Landrum was with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture for 37 years. He was Regional Supervisor for Grasshopper Control for 7 states. Upon retiring in 1972, he was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation. Mr. Landrum was a member of the Entomological Society of America and served as Southwestern Branch Chairman in 1954. He was also a member of the Texas Entomological Association. Mr. Landrum was a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #92 and the Scottish Rite Bodies. The Freemasons honored him in 1994 for more than 50 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Landrum was awarded a Civil Defense Certificate in 1966 from the Division of University Extension, University of Tennessee, in Radiological Monitoring for Instructors. Mr. Landrum was also a pilot and in 1974 received certification in Aviation Maintenance from Texas State Technical College. Mr. Landrum was the oldest surviving graduate of Texas A&M University and in 2001 was presented with a Life Time Membership in the “Aggie Alumni Association”. He was a bronze member of the Century Club. Mr. Landrum was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Survivors: wife, Mary Gurley Landrum of Waco; daughter, Leta Landrum Pierce of Omaha, Nebraska; son, John Bryan Landrum & wife Nancy of New Orleans, Louisiana; 3 grandchildren, Reece Pierce & wife Deborah of Omaha, Nebraska; Russ Pierce & wife Jenny & Randy Pierce & wife Beth all of Louisville, Kentucky; 5 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal School or McLennan County A&M Club Student Scholarship. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
