SCOTT, JOHN MILTON John Milton Scott, 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his home in Waco. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2003, at 11:30am at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. A reception with the family will immediately follow. A family graveside service at the Oakwood Cemetery will take place later in the day. He was born in Waco on June 7, 1916, to Milton W. Scott, architect, and Ivy Thompson Scott. He graduated from Waco High School in 1935 and earned his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1940, qualifying for Professional Engineering certification. During WW-II, he served in the United States Navy as Lt. JG in Aviation Ordinance. During his career he held positions as - Draftsman at Reed Roller Bit Company 1940-41; Supervisor of Process Engineering at Remington Arms 1941-44; Plant Engineer rising to R&D Director and Assistant to the President at Star Engraving Company 1946-70; Engineering Director at Robinson Orifice Fitting Company 1970-73; Chief Engineer and General Manager at Perry Equipment Corporation 1973-83. He was a member of several professional engineering societies, and was an enthusiastic life-long supporter of the University of Texas College of Engineering where he endowed an engineering scholarship. He was an avid patron of local theaters, attending most productions within driving distance, with his companion Esther Chaffin, and occasionally traveled to attend Broadway productions. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred, and his sisters Gertrude Henrichsen and Margaret McCall. He is survived by his daughter Janet Harp, her husband Jeffrey, granddaughters Stacey Ryder and Karen Westbrook and great grandson Gavin Ryder, and by his son David Scott, his wife Joni and their daughter Allison.
