John Rentschler

November 14, 1928 — December 14, 2023

John Rentschler, 95, entered the joyful presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 14, 2023. A graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, Texas, with Dr. David Morgan officiating.

John was born November 14, 1928, in Spencer, Indiana, to John William Rentschler and Mary Katherine Stuart Rentschler, the second of four brothers and one sister. John grew up in Frankfort, Indiana where he graduated from high school in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948. After graduating with a superior rating from the Air Force Technical Training School, he was sent to Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas to teach in the Aircraft and Engine School, engine operations branch. While at Sheppard AFB, John met the love of his life, Joyce Whitaker, from Archer City. They were married at Joyce’s parents’ home in 1950 and lived in their beloved Iowa Park until her death in 2018. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1952, John owned and operated JR Well Servicing until his first retirement in his late sixties. Until his second retirement in his late seventies, John worked in oil production.

John Rentschler embodied Christian integrity and service. He tirelessly served Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park as a deacon. He participated in many church-building trips in Texas and other states, using his skills and physical labor to provide facilities for churches in need. In later years, he was active in the Iowa Park Rotary Club, serving as its treasurer and as president. His Rotary Club named John a Rotarian Builder for his contributions, and he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest honor in Rotary. He donated his time and skill to build facilities for the Rotary flag project as well as helping to put up flags around Iowa Park on holidays and then to store them until needed again.

John and Joyce loved to travel, particularly to Europe and to Colorado. Twice they visited the Holy Land. On one special river cruise in Germany, John traveled to Grombach, the small German town from which his ancestors came.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce; his parents; and his three brothers, Robert Rentschler, Thomas Rentschler, and James Rentschler.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Carol Rentschler Lowe, and her husband Phillip Lowe; daughter, Cindy Rentschler Morgan, and her husband Dr. David Morgan; grandson, John Lowe, and his wife Angela; granddaughter, Mary Morgan; great-granddaughters, Emma Lowe and Lillian Lowe; his sister, Linda Rentschler; and many nieces and nephews.
