PARISH, JOHN John Tandy Parish, 54 of Waco passed away in Dallas on Thursday, August 12, 2004 after a courageous battle with MDS. Graveside services will be held at 2pm Sunday, August 15 at Lakeside Memorial Park in Henderson, Texas. The Rev. Ricky Ricks will preside. A memorial service will be held at 10am, Monday, August 16 at First United Methodist Church, Lake Air at Cobbs, Waco. The Rev. Steve Ramsdell will preside. Mr. Parish was born August 1, 1950 in Bowie, Montague County, Texas to Janine Welch Parish and John Ray Parish. He grew up in Andrews, Texas and graduated from Andrews High School in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University in 1973. He married his college sweetheart, Paula Powell of Henderson on May 18, 1973. John was an Eagle Scout. He earned the God & Country Award in Boy Scouts of America and lived according to the principles of the Scout Law, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, every day of his life. He was a member of the Tryon-Coterie fraternity and a charter member of Phi Delta Theta chapter at Baylor. John was a charter member of Baylor Student Foundation and a Life Member of Baylor Alumni Association. John went into public accounting for Johnson and Miller CPA firm in Hobbs, New Mexico. He later worked as comptroller for First National Bank of Temple. In his professional life, John was a member of American Institute and Texas and New Mexico Societies of Certified Public Accountants. In Andrews, he worked as chief financial officer for Parish Exploration and Production. He was elected to the Andrews City Council and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He was a member of Andrews County Appraisal District Board and Senior Citizens Board. John and his family moved to Waco in 1993, and he was Senior Vice-President of J-Hawk Corporation and First City Financial, Inc. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waco. He was a member of Hedonia Club and was active in Midway Little League and served as Commissioner of Midway Junior Little League.He was also a memberof the Board of Directors of BHI of Waco He was preceded in death by his mother, Janine Welch Parish. He is survived by his wife, Paula, daughter and son-in-law, Padgett and Jerry Ogden, sons John Newell and Malcolm Tandy Parish, all of Waco; father, John Ray Parish of Andrews; grandchildren Olivia Faith and Evelyn Grace Ogden of Waco; sister and brother-in-law, Leah and Chuck Wells of Weslaco; mother-in-law, Miriam Wallace Powell of Henderson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane and Jimmy Pittman of Fort Worth; nieces Wendy and Malarie Wells of Weslaco, Priscilla Pittman of Fort Worth; nephews Blair Wells of Weslaco and Chris Pittman and his wife, Christina, and daughter, Carolina, all of Dallas. Other family members surviving are half-brother Andy and wife Darlene Ervin, Caitlin and Drew Ervin, all of Andrews; Lisa and Scott Wallace, Elliott and Hillary Wallace, all of Dallas, Sandra Wallace and Sherri and Bobby Patton, Robert and Rachel Patton, all of Fort Worth, Helen and Mike Whitecotton, Tim and Robert Whitecotton, all of Kingsland; Marsha and Richard Bradley and daughter Diane Hanna of Bowie; Capt. Richard Parish of Panama City, Florida; Paul Parish of Berkley, California; Dr. David Parish of Macon, Georgia and Valerie Parish of California. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Brashier, Dr. Mace Brindley, Dr. Jim Copeland, Kent Adcock, Mark Dickerson, Bill Dietz, Sr., Dr. Scott Jones, Dr. Bob Nowlin, Mike Miller, Tom Piscacek, Dr. Kent Starr, Tom Swiley and Dr. Phil Croyle. Memorials may be made to Baylor Student Foundation Scholarship Fund, Edna Gladney Center of Fort Worth, or Evangelism Fund at First United Methodist Church of Waco.
