GAMBOA, SR., JOHNNIE Ascencion “Johnnie” Gamboa, Sr., age 86, of Waco died Thursday, March 14, 2002 at a local hospital. Services will include the Rosary to be recited Sunday, March 17 at 7:00PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 1124 Washington Ave. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM Monday, March 18 at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church, 301 Jefferson with Rev. Fernando Hernandez, T.O.R. officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemond Cemetery in Waco. Mr. Gamboa was born on May 16, 1915 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to the union of Eulogio and Maria Gamboa. Johnnie was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He served in the Army Air Corps with the 20th Air Force in the China-India-Burma Theater, India and Air Offensive Japan and Korea. His service to America was his most cherished accomplishment. He was a member of VFW Post 8564 in Waco. He was a past member of the Waco Missions, having served during the organizational formative years. His parents; a brother, Bernardo Gamboa; sisters, Frances Gamboa, Adelia Gamboa, Lucy Romo and Marianna Martinez preceded him in death. Johnnie is survived by his wife, Mary Pappas Gamboa of Waco; son, Johnnie Gamboa, Jr. and wife, Diane of Spring; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, brother, Domingo Gamboa of Garland; sisters, Mary Villarrial of McGregor, Carmen Vicinias and Julia Garza both of Waco. Pallbearers will be Robert Gamboa, Ernest Gamboa, Richard Gamboa, Robert Paschinkz, David Wall, Chris Romo. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many neighbors who helped Johnnie and his wife, Mary during their illness and time of need.
