John L. Johnny Walker Aug. 3, 1909 – Dec. 21, 2005 John L. Johnny Walker, 96, passed away Dec. 21, 2005 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 11:30 am Saturday, December 24 at Waco Memorial North Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. John was born August 3, 1909 to Walter Luke and Elizabeth Cole Walker in Ennis, Texas, moving to Waco in 1921. He attended Waco public schools, graduating from Waco High in the spring, 1928. He married Vivian Smith September 11, 1930. She preceded him in death July, 31, 2003. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Wesleyan Workers Sunday School Class. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a letter carrier from 1941 to 1976. He served St. John’s United Methodist Church now Central United Methodist Church in many capacities: Steward, Sunday School teacher and department head and as a counselor and director at Glen Lake Methodist Camp at Glen Rose. He was a Scout Master for many years in the Boys Scouts of America. John was also a Cartoonist and Pen and Ink Artist and he provided numerous illustrations for slogans and logos. He was a longtime member of Community Artists and Students Association and served often on the board of trustees. John was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, his son, John Luvern Walker, Jr. and his parents. He is survived by his children, Alan Dale Walker of Waco, Jeremy Franklin Walker and wife, Kay of Arlington and Beverly Walker of Waco; daughter-in-law, Neva Amyett and husband, Excell; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
