Jose Chester A. Rangel

RANGEL, JOSE CHESTER A. Jose Chester A. Rangel, age 82 of Waco died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Friday, August 29 at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Sergio Lopez and Rev. Fernando Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7pm Thursday, August 28 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with visitation to follow. Mr. Rangel was born April 13, 1921 to Domingo and Maria Fausto Rangel in Bellmead. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother to all his family. He was a graduate of LaVega High School and attended Baylor University. He served honorably in the Army during WWII. He married Juanita M. Mejia June 26, 1949 and was a loving and devoted husband for 54 years. Mr. Rangel retired from the State Department of Corrections, Gatesville, Texas on December 31, 1986. He also worked for H.E.B. several years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Maria Rangel; sisters, Ninfa DeLeon, Carmen Rangel, Joaquina Rangel; and brothers, Jesus Rangel, and Cruz Rangel. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Mejia Rangel of Waco; daughters, Barbara Ridings and husband, Glen of Waco and Patty Lopez of Austin; grandsons, Jason and Josh Ridings; great grandson, Hayden Ridings; sisters, Faye Ortiz and husband, Victor of Waco and Frances Rangel of Waco; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Andy Mejia, Pete C. Mejia, Mario Mejia, Gregory De Leon, Micheal De Leon and Johnny Amaro. The family wants to thank Providence Hospice Care and the staff of Providence Health Center for its wonderful care during his sickness. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church.
