Josephine Carey Tyler April 1, 1918 – December 1, 2005 Josephine Carey Tyler passed away Thursday, December 1, 2005 at East Texas Medical Center. Graveside services will be Monday, December 5, at Robinson Cemetery with Dr. John Carey officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m.Sunday, December 4, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Josephine was born April 1, 1918 in Robinson, TX to John L. & Mattie M. Carey. A graduate of Waco High School, she attended Baylor University and began her life long career in the insurance industry in 1959 at Wheeler-Deegan Insurance in Abilene, TX. In 1972, she moved to Temple where she was the Agency Manager for Reliable Insurance Agency from 1975 through 1989. Throughout her life she was an active member and leader of her community’s professional insurance organizations. Having served in many leadership positions for the Insurance Women of Abilene, Mrs. Tyler was instrumental in the formation of the Bell County Association of Insurance Women where she served as President from 1973-1975. She also served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Temple from 1983-1984. Retired in 1990 at age 72, she was a member of Altrusa International and a volunteer at Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple. After spending several post-retirement years in Waco, Mrs. Tyler moved to Mabank, TX in 2002 to be near her daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Howard Carey and Perry E. Carey and a sister, Dora Mae Herring. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Sebastian of Canton, TX; sister, Frances Sherman of Mabank, TX; several cousins in Waco and many nieces and nephews.
