JOSEPHINE E. BAKER J. Elizabeth Baker, 81, died at home December 21, 2002. A memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, December 28 at Waco Memorial North Mausoleum Chapel, with Drs. Jerry Jud and Eugene Jud officiating. She known as Lady by family and Elizabeth by friends was born to Joseph W. & Dora Doxey in Grand Chenier, LA on May 9, 1921. Education through high school was there followed by a degree in Home Economics from Louisiana Tech in Ruston. Her first job was as manager of the Ration Office for Cameron Parish in 1942-1943 where she met her husband-to-be, Reuben. That was followed by a short stint as Home Economics Demonstration Agent for Calcasieu Parish prior to the beginning of her teaching career through Creole, LA; Kansas City, MO; Waco, TX at both Waco High & University; Atlanta, GA before retirement in 1977, at which time she returned to Waco. Her hobbies were sewing and gardening, plus some bowling in a senior league with her husband. She will be sorely missed and survived by her husband of 59 years; son, Glenn and wife Barbara of Waco; son, Walter of Bryan; granddaughters, Robyn Hightower, Heidi Curry and April Baker of Waco, Wendy Smith of Ft. Worth and Roxanne Baker of Bryan; grandson, Brad Baker of Auburn, AL; three great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, John Perry Doxey of Deer Park, TX and J.W. Doxey, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA; two sisters, Hilda Rae Ricks of Mansfield, LA and Kathleen Shackelford of Monroe, LA. Her parents and a sister, Dorothy Doxey, preceded her in death. Should anyone desire to, a memorial contribution may be made to Providence Hospice of Waco.
