Joyce Anderson

Joyce G. Anderson of Waco passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Joyce, born August 28, 1925, was the daughter of Gilbert F. and Pearl S. Gruetzner. She was a graduate of Bruceville-Eddy High School and Four-C Business College in Waco. She married Frank N. Anderson on June 6, 1946. They were married for 70 loving years until his death in 2016. They had two children, Barry L. Anderson and Cathy Joyce Anderson. Prior to retirement in 1978 Joyce worked ten years as a medical secretary in the office of Drs. Crosthwait, Berry, and Angel. One of her favorite activities after retirement was volunteering at Hillcrest Professional Development School. Assisting first and second graders with their reading skills was her greatest enjoyment. Joyce and Frank were members of St. John’s United Methodist Church for 47 years. They transferred to First United Methodist Church in 1997. Joyce was active in numerous church activities including the United Methodist Women’s group. She enjoyed making craft items and baking cakes and pies for many church festivals. Preceding Joyce in death were her parents; her loving husband, Frank; her beloved daughter, Cathy; and her sisters, Virginia Webb and husband, Tom, and Lana Phillips and husband, Gene. She is survived by her son, Barry; granddaughter, Ashley Blake and husband, Chris; great-grandsons, Anderson and Ames Blake; and several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. Joyce’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to all of the administrative leaders and “Carefriends” at Arbor House. They made Joyce’s life so very comfortable, loving and fun during these past five and a half years. Additionally, the staff at Interim Hospice cared for Joyce during her final phase of life with great care and compassion. In lieu of plants or flowers donations may be made in Joyce’s name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of your choice.
