Juanita Nixon November 24, 1929 - September 30, 2012 Juanita Nixon, age 82, of Waco, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 4, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Juanita was born November 24, 1929, in Waco, to Jim and Maude Mangum. She graduated from Waco High School in 1947, and was on the class reunion committee. She attended Baylor University and was a proud member of the Baylor Marching Band. On November 27, 1948, she married Robert Nixon, and they enjoyed 63 years, 10 months together. To this union was born three children, Nita Kay, Richard S. and Patricia Lynn. She spent her life being a wife, mother and grandmother. Juanita volunteered in all her children's activities, church, school band, and Scouts. She served on the board of directors for Girl Scouts for 4 years, and was a promoter of Waco's first Toys for Tots, at the Marine Reserve location, with all ages of Scouts. After the children were grown, she volunteered in all phases of Karem Shrine with her husband for several years; serving as chairmen of decorating and entertainment. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile and Western Heights Baptist Church. Juanita enjoyed doing crafts and decorating in church and all activities of her life. She loved being "Grandma" to her wonderful grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Winnie and Louise; and one brother, James; Juanita is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Richard; daughters, Patty Nixon and Nita Shelton; six grandchildren, Jessica Wakefield and Kellyn Eddins, Wesley and Randy Shelton, Melissa Smith and LaneAnn Simmons, eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bobbie; and daughter-in-law, Carrie; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Pallbearers are James Klien, Doug Moore, Jason Cheney, Ed Slaughter, Mack Patrick and Harold Patrick. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Shriner Childrens Hospitals.
