Julia Rosen Ellis

December 24, 1915 — October 14, 2006

Julia Rosen Ellis December 24, 1915 – October 14, 2006 Julia Rosen Ellis died on Saturday, October 14, 2006, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 90, after an extended illness. Funeral services will take place at 9:30 am, Monday, October 16 at Agudath Jacob Cemetery in Waco, Texas. Rabbi Gordon Fuller will officiate. Julia was born in Waco, Texas, on December 24, 1915, and lived most of her childhood and adult life there. Prior to World War II, she met Abe Ellis, Sam Harelik’s best friend from Hamilton, Texas. While Abe was away at war, he and Julia wrote to each other everyday. They married on April 30, 1945, and their wonderful and loving marriage lasted 54 years until Abe’s passing in 1999. Julia was always very energetic and enthusiastic about life, work, family, and friends. In the early 1970’s, Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer. After recovering from a double mastectomy, she did not slow down and went on to help hundreds of other women deal with breast cancer. She traveled and went on talk shows, spoke to hospitals and doctors, and personally fitted survivors in special prostheses and bras for their comfort and dignity. This was her passion and mitzvah for so many years, and she was soon known around the country and was recognized by her family name as simply’ “Aunt Julia.” Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her husband Abe, daughter Marilyn, and daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Lenny Dubin. Nevertheless, you could always see it in her eyes, and hear it in her voice, that her two grandsons, Jordan and Jared Dubin, were the ultimate gift that life had bestowed upon her. They were her new passion, and even though miles separated them between Waco and Houston, phone calls and regular visits allowed them to kindle their relationship like only a grandma and her grandchildren can embrace. Momo and Papa instilled all of the wonderful values of life into their grandsons, filling their world with love, peace, understanding, and compassion. The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services in Houston. A special thank you also to Dr. Hattie Henderson, the staff of the Cohen Unit, Mr. Malcolm Slatko, and the entire staff for their love, comfort, and support. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Bernard “Abe” Ellis, daughter, Marilyn Lois Ellis, brother and sister in law, Willie and Eunice Rosen, sister Sara Brockman, brother and sister in laws, Joe and Rose Ellis, Bill and Blanche Ellis, Sam and Mildred Ellis, and sister in law Ruby Rosen. She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter and son in law, Sherry and Lenny Dubin, grandsons Jordan and Jared Dubin, sister, Margaret Harelik, brother and sister in law, Joe and Sue Rosen, and brother, Arthur Rosen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from the Rosen/Harelik/Ellis families.
