Kalvart K. Tidwell, Jr. October 14, 1928 July 16, 2010 Kalvart K. Tidwell, Jr., a native of Waco, died, Friday, July 16, 2010 at a local hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 19, in the Garden Room at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mr. Tidwell was born October 14, 1928 in Waco to Ruth and Kalvart K. Tidwell, Sr. He became a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Waco at an early age and at the age of eleven became a Christian and was baptized by his grandfather, the late Baptist minister and educator, Dr. J. B. Tidwell. Mr. Tidwell attended public schools in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in January, 1947. He earned a Bachelor degree from Baylor University in May, 1959. Since 1967, Mr. Tidwell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodway. Mr. Tidwell was employed for thirty seven years by Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T; his work taking him to Temple, Austin and Dallas. He retired as the Central Texas Manager for AT&T in June, 1984. From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Tidwell owned and operated ICS Telephones in Waco. He sold this business in mid- 1988 and devoted his time to his favorite pastimes. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, boating, amateur archeology and maintenance of a small farm in Coryell County. Mr. Tidwell also enjoyed genealogy and successfully traced his Tidwell ancestors to thirteenth century England. Mr. Tidwell has held memberships in the McGregor Rotary Club, the Temple Lions Club and the Heart of Texas Lions Club of Waco. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, having served two terms as president of the Waco club. He was an active supporter and benefactor of Baylor University and a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association, Old Main Society and the Heritage Club. Survivors include his wife, Sue Jones Tidwell; daughter, Jan Smith of Moshiem; son, K. K. Tidwell, III of Crawford; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and sister, Mrs. Curt E. Forkel of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Pallbearers will be Jack M. Carr, Milton Solomon, James Keltner, John Hawes, Bland Brown, Don Buster and grandsons, Casy Smith and Brandon Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1947 Class of Waco High School. Memorials may be made to the Sue and K.K. Tidwell Endowed Scholarship Fund at Baylor University.
