December 1, 1959 — January 15, 2016

Karen Mackinnon Dec. 1, 1959 - Jan. 15, 2016 Karen has been in the presence of her Lord and Savior and Great Hope since Jan. 15, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Fellowship Bible Church, 5218 Speegleville Rd, McGregor, TX 76657. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, in Calvert, Texas, at the Calvert Cemetery. She was born Dec. 1, 1959, in Houston to John D. and Jane A. Mackinnon. She attended Second Baptist School in Houston through the 8th grade and then the family moved to College Station, Texas, where she graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1979. She studied at Abilene Christian University and Texas A&M. While living in College Station, Karen worked for First Baptist Church in Bryan, as well as Mackinnon & Co. Karen lived in Waco for the past 30 years. Karen loved the two churches she attended, Dayspring Baptist Church and Fellowship Bible Church. She cherished the many friendships she had in Waco and loved attending Lady Bear basketball games. She also enjoyed going to Calvert to see family and friends. Karen trusted in Christ at an early age and knew her Savior would see her through the many health challenges she faced. She learned to enjoy the scenery on the detours of life. She was confident that ALL things worked together for good for those who loved the Lord and were called according to His purpose. (Rom. 8:28) She is predeceased by her father, John Mackinnon. She is survived by her mother, Jane Mackinnon; brother, Doug; sister-in-law, Jalaine; and three special nephews, Luke, Joshua, and Seth. She is also survived by her aunt and uncle, Peter and Barb Mackinnon, of Flat Rock, NC as well as many cousins. “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Phil. 1:21) Memorials can be made to either of the churches she loved in Waco or the charity of your choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
