Karen Sue Atchison

Karen Sue Atchison, 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Temple, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Texas. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, just prior to the service. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Karen was born August 6, 1952, in Waco, to Melba and W. Wesley Atchison. She lived at home and attended classes in Waco Independent School District for eleven years before moving to Mexia to reside at Mexia State School and later, a group home. She worked at Centex Mexia Work Center for many years. She later moved to Lewisville and then Temple to be closer to family. Along with her parents and sister, she attended Grace Temple Baptist Church in Waco, which was an important part of her life. Karen loved watching TV and movies, looking at her magazines, listening and singing along to country music, and drinking Dr. Pepper. She was very sweet, polite, and funny, always referring to others as "Sir", "Ma'am", or, once you'd earned the distinction, even "Doctor". She was protective of her family and outspoken about her thoughts, and often had a funny story to tell. In true family fashion, she enjoyed sweets and good southern food. She especially enjoyed birthday and holiday celebrations with loved ones. Her huge smile at the sight of presents, cake, ice cream, and family would light up the room and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Melba; sister, Martha Danford; and brother-in-law, Jerry Danford. Karen is survived by her nieces, Robin Acevedo and husband Ed, of Katy, and Jennifer Tuttle and husband Jason, of Cedar Park; her great-nieces Jessica and Nicole Acevedo; as well as two first cousins and their families.
