Katharine Y. Curry February 20, 1959 - March 9, 2016 “Her life was a sermon in Courage.” Katharine Y. Curry of Waco, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Leslie King officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, March 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Kathy was born February 20, 1959, in Waco, Texas, to James and Alice Yates. She attended and was a counselor at Camp Olympia for several years. She graduated from Midway ISD. After high school she enjoyed traveling abroad in Europe. She attended Texas Tech for a year and then transferred and graduated from Baylor University, where she was a Pi Beta Phi. She was a Cotton Palace Princess in 1977 and a Hedonia debutante in 1978. She was very active in Junior League. She was preceded in death by her father, James McLaurin Yates; and her brother, James McLaurin Yates, Jr. She is survived by her mother, Alice Walker Bidelspach; her former husband, James Curtis Curry; their daughter, Laurin Curry Potts, of Waco; grandchildren, Makenna and Brody Potts; sisters, Alice Yates Petrich and husband, Edward, of Waco , Sandra Surhen Hamblin and husband, Pierce, of Lexington, Kentucky and Lisa Bidelspach of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Esther Chalmers and Maria Solano. Pallbearers are Edward Petrich, Dan Brooks, Russell Graham, Robert Graham, Chris Starr and David Jayroe. The family wants to thank all her caregivers who truly became friends, especially Kathy Collier and Dr. Robert Plemmons.
