Kathryn Ann Robertson Reeves Jan. 1, 1933 Aug. 4, 2015 Kathryn Ann Kay Robertson Reeves, 82, of Houston, died on August 4, 2015. A memorial service will be held in the Westmoreland Chapel at 1:00 pm, Monday, August 10, at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main in Houston, where Dr. Steve Wells will officiate, with reception to follow. Additionally, friends are cordially invited to a reception with the family from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8, Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. in Waco. The interment will follow at 11:30 a.m., Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 South 5th St. in Waco, where Rev. Erin Conaway, Pastor Seventh and James Baptist Church will officiate. Kathryn Ann was born in Waco, Texas, on January 1, 1933, to Vernon William Robertson and Nina Maude Heatly Robertson. She spent her early years enjoying country life in Mart, Texas, moving to Waco in 1946. As a child, her friends could not pronounce Kathryn Ann, so they shortened it to K.A., which became Kay, a nickname that stuck for life. Kay met Irvin Reeves while selling newspaper ads as a high school senior in Waco. Irvin bought an ad, asked her out on a date, and they married on June 21, 1952. Kay graduated from Waco High School and Baylor University, majoring in Elementary Education. She enjoyed teaching the third grade in Waco for several years prior to the birth of her first child. During the Korean War, Irvin and Kay were stationed for two years at Camp Chaffey, Arkansas and Camp Crowder, Missouri before returning to Waco. They moved to Austin in 1958 where they welcomed their second daughter and in 1966 they made Houston their home. A caring daughter and niece, Kay oversaw the care of her beloved uncle, Herbert Heatly and her mother for the last years of their lives. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing bridge and dominoes, loved hymns, Big Band and Broadway show tunes, played piano by ear and doted on her grandchildren. Kay was a cradle to grave member of the Baptist church and most importantly, loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She faithfully attended South Main Baptist Church where she served as President of the Marytha Sunday School Class and taught in the SMILE program. Kay enjoyed participating in the Coterie Study Club, Baylor Alumni Association, a bridge group, Lunch Bunch, and various dance and social clubs. Kay began managing real estate projects after her uncle became ill, becoming an efficient and frugal businesswoman. Kay loved and cherished her friends. Homebound by illness, she always brightened when friends came to visit. Though diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease many years ago, she never complained about her difficulties and was beautiful and cheerful until her death. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Irvin Reeves; Kay is survived by daughters, Nancy Jungman and husband, John, of Dallas, and Linda Walker and husband, Mike, of Houston; grandchildren, William Jungman, Kathryn Jungman, Jennifer Walker Emerson and husband, Thomas, Whitney Walker and Michael Walker; great-grandchildren, Knox and Henry Emerson; sister-in-law, Billie Purvis and brother-in-law, Alex Federwisch, both of Waco; and her niece, nephews and their families. Kay was an only child and was grateful for the siblings her marriage brought her. Kay was blessed to have a long time companion and caregiver, Alfreedom Rice. Additionally, the family wishes to thank Marina Horsford, Marci Soto, Eneida Estrada, Ashley Anoyo, the nurses and staff at The Plaza at The Buckingham, and Vantage Hospice for their loving care. Honorary pallbearers are deacons and members of the Men's Bible Class at South Main Baptist Church. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be directed to South Main Baptist Church Building Fund, 4100 Main, Houston, TX, 77002.
