Ken Sharpe

Ken Sharpe of Waco, Texas passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the age of 93. His graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27 at Waco Memorial Park with the Reverend Wayne Williams officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Ken was born October 14, 1922, in Norton, Texas, to Kennett I. “K.I.” Sharpe and Myrtle Bowden Sharpe and grew up in a farming community in the West Texas area. He was a good, generous and Godly man. Ken had a great sense of humor. He was devoted to his wife, Elena Sharpe. The Lord blessed him with many talents and he worked hard to take care of his family. He started his career in wood working in his cabinet shop in Ballinger, Texas. He spent many years farming while also working for building contractors in Abilene, Texas and built his first house in Abilene. Thereafter, he built many beautiful houses and homes for his wife and family. He felt blessed by the Lord, because he loved his vocation and looked forward to going to work every morning. After he retired, he and Elena traveled extensively visiting the capitals of every mainland state in the United States and parts of Canada. He and Elena also enjoyed square dancing and round dancing. Ken and Elena were active in their church, First United Methodist Church of Waco. Ken was loved by many, especially his family and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Ouida Ballard; and grandson, David Beyer. He is survived by daughters, Donna O'Bryan and son-in-law, Gene, of Waco; Sandra Beyer and son-in-law, Daryl, of Waco; Brenda Welch-Huffaker of Waco; grandchildren, Dana Szabo of Austin, Pam Smith of Tyler, and Shelley Smith of Waco; great grandchildren, Kayla Szabo of Austin, Kenneth Smith, Logan Smith, Ethan Smith, Dylan Smith and Caden Smith, all of Tyler; and great, great grandchildren, Seda Shirejian and Jacob Shirejian, Jr. and Zoey Hickman all of Austin.
