Kenneth Wayne Davis

January 19, 1944 — April 6, 2005

Davis, Kenneth Kenneth Wayne Ken Davis, 61, of Hewitt went to be with his Lord and Savior in heaven on Wednesday, April, 6, 2005. Services will be Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Hewitt with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home on Friday, April 8 from 6 to 8:00 PM. Ken was born January 19, 1944 to John H. and Dollie Davis of Waco, Texas. His family lived in the Dallas, Texas area for several years. While living in Dallas, he met and married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Jo Moore of Dallas on April 3, 1965. While living in the Dallas metroplex for many years, God blessed them with three daughters. In 1977 he and his family moved to Hewitt, Texas where they have resided for 28 years. Ken served his country as a chief petty officer in the intelligence communications department of the United States Navy from 1966-1970. His Navy service took him to many places including Okinawa and Panama. While in Panama he took up many hobbies which included collecting and making beautiful art with the native butterflies of the area and collecting antique bottles. Ken served his Lord with his many God given talents. He was blessed with a beautiful voice with which he used to glorify God. While living in Dallas, he was a part of a Gospel singing group. Ken was an active member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Hewitt for 28 years during which time taught Sunday school, participated in outreach and sang in the choir. Every day he made sure to set aside time to spend quality moments with his Lord in prayer, reading and studying God’s word. Ken lived a lifestyle of evangelism and made sure that everyone he met saw Christ through him. Ken had a very close and active relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ to whom he is now singing praises in person. When Ken came home from his Navy service, he began his 12-1/2 year career as a General Merchandise Manager for the J C Penney Company, which took him to many cities in Texas; but, following God’s plan for his life, he began a new career as a business instructor at Texas State Technical College where he had devoted more than 20 years. Over those years he would occasionally run into some of his students who would always express how much he had touched their lives. Ken was also employed with the Waco Tribune Herald for over 20 years as a newspaper distributor. He was so well loved by the persons on his paper route, some of who would always have some kind of gift for him to show their love and appreciation. He loved going out of his way to do nice things for friends and loved ones. His hobbies included gardening, hunting fishing, cooking, grocery shopping, garage saleing, antiques and numerous outside activities. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Moore Davis of Hewitt; daughters, Catherine Tran and husband, Steve Tran of Dallas, Christine Wolfe and husband, Major George Wolfe of San Antonio and Shannon Le Fevre and husband, Matt Le Fevre of Waco; his parents, Mr.& Mrs. John Davis of Waco and his brother, Larry Davis and wife Linda of Houston. Ken and Carolyn were blessed with seven granddaughters, Brittni, Jolie and Emily Tran, Haley and Lila Wolfe and Chloe and Laney Le Fevre. Kenneth was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. Pallbearers will be George Wolfe, Matt La Fevre, Steve Tran, Gerry French, Harry Shaeffer, Dale Allan, Ray May and Jerry Allen Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church of Hewitt. The family wished to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Providence and Scott and White Hospitals who went above and beyond the normal procedures to help bring Ken back to health. Especially to Dr. de Keartry who tried to heal not only the patient but also the whole family. We extend our greatest gratitude to those church family, friends and relatives who ministered to our family in our deepest time of need. In lieu of flowers or gifts, he would want donations to be made to a memorial fund to his grandchildren, our future. The family invites to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.wilkirsonhatchbailey.com. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey
