L. Scott Smith

L. Scott Smith passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, at the age of 76. A family graveside service will be held Monday, January 18, at Oakwood Cemetery. Scott was born October 14, 1944, in Freeport, Brazoria County, Texas, to William and Maudie Smith. He departed in peace. His survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Eleanor Lynn Barnard Smith; daughter, Beverly Lynn Shultz; son-in-law, Dr. John Michael Shultz; three grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Shultz, Scott Michael Shultz, and Katherine Elaine Shultz; and his little dog, Sadie, whom he loved. Scott had multiple academic interests including religion, law, philosophy, politics, and American culture. His writings concerning these appeared in numerous venues. He desired no funeral or memorial service. It was his request that others remember him as, when, and where they desire. In lieu of any conventional gesture of condolence, he asked that friends and loved ones donate to his favorite charity, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or the charity of their choice.
