Larncie Glen Blake, 83, of Waco, known as “Burr” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, January 23, 2023, to meet his Lord Jesus Christ.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 27, at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
Burr was born to L.B. and Gertrude (Meil) Blake on August 11, 1939, in Meadow, Texas. As a teenager, he loved fast cars, rock and roll, and giving his teachers and principals one heck of a time. He graduated from Friona High School in 1957 and started farming with his father.
On June 23, 1962, he married the most beautiful and talented girl in town: Karen Turner. Burr and Karen would then be blessed with a son, Billy Lawrence, who was born too early and went to live with Jesus soon after his birth. They then moved to Stratford, Texas, where they both continued farming with Burr’s father. Soon thereafter, their son Loren Drew and daughter Kristi were born.
Burr enjoyed bowling, golfing, and being an all-around smart aleck. He would often say that the sun could not set on any given day until he gave someone a hard time. This beguiling, yet often irksome, trait exemplified his personality—yet he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Burr and Karen moved to Waco to live near Kristi in 2001. Now retired, Burr finally bought his first Corvette. He became a member of the Cen-Tex Corvette Club where he made many lifelong friends. He even chased down an armed robber in one of his Corvettes and was honored by the Woodway City Council, which is a far cry from his drag racing days in high school that landed him in trouble with the local law!
Burr was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Drew and Billy; his parents; and sister, Opal Bell.
He is survived by his former wife, Karen Blake; daughter, Kristi and son-in-law, Christopher DeCluitt; and grandchildren, Katheryn Kapfer, Eva DeCluitt, and Blake DeCluitt.
The family would like to thank each and every member of the staff of Providence Hospital and Providence Hospice Place for their loving care of Burr in his final days.
In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Burr’s love of his many pet dogs and cats throughout the years, please donate to the Central Texas Humane Society in his memory.
