Morton, Laverne Laverne Edith Needham Morton, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at a local nursing home. Services will be Monday, June 20 at 9:30 AM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Curtis Holland and Mitchell Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Jarratt Cemetery in Jacksonville, Texas at 3:00 PM. Laverne was born August 17, 1912 in Jewett, Leon County, Texas to Henry Levi and Dora Cora Robinson Needham. She graduated from high school, attended Westminster Junior College in Tehuacana and graduated from Tyler Commercial College in 1932. She married Frank S. Morton in 1938 and they moved to Borger, Hutchinson County. They owned and operated a wholesale and retail lumber business until his death in 1968. She moved to Waco in 1977 and was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Faith Sunday school class and the Fellowship Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; a daughter, Patricia Morton Atkinson in 1991, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by two grandsons, Gregory Atkinson and wife Hope of Alabama and Brent Atkinson of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Christine Needham, Jo Morton Bevington, Syble Teene Morton, Hazel Morton and Katie Morton; niece, Sylvia Needham Schuster and husband, Joseph; great niece, Suzanne Schuster Darrow and three great nephews, James Kent Schuster, David Schuster and Stan Schuster and numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
