HUDSON, LA VERNE HALL MRS. MARION JOSEPH HUDSON LaVerne Hudson, age 84, of Waco died Monday, July 29, 2002 at her residence. Services will be held at 9:30AM Thursday, August 1 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday, July 31 at the funeral home. LaVerne Hall was born July 27, 1918 at Mansfield, Arkansas, to Omar Lee and Eureka Patterson Hall. She was married June 14, 1940, at Mansfield to Marion J. Hudson of Texarkana, Texas. She graduated in 1939 from Quachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas and had a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. She taught English, before becoming a high school guidance counselor, for the last twenty years, before her retirement in 1980. For her last eight years as a counselor, she was the chairman of the Guidance Department at Rincon High School, Tucson, Arizona. She was active in professional guidance associations and had served as a state officer for Arizona Counselors. She was initiated into Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in 1960 and was a member of Zeta Chapter in Waco. She was initiated into Chapter B, PEO Sisterhood in Arkansas in 1946 and was a member of Chapter BF, Waco. LaVerne had taught women’s Sunday School classes most of her adult life and was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, where she attended Dr. Cresson’s Class. She had served in Day Baptist Women, the W.M.U. Council and in the Neighbor’s International Program at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Marion J. Hudson of Waco; children, Richard M. of San Jose, California, Stephen A. of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Mrs. Jim Susan Huey of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, David Hudson of Plano, Texas, Sharon Hudson Dunham of Southeast Asia, Joe Hudson of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Stephanie Hudson of Seattle, Washington, Trent Huey and Natalie Huey of Waco; four great grandchildren; and brothers, Colonel Arnold L. of Marthasville, Missouri, Douglas Lee of Mansfield, Arkansas, and W. Randolph of Talihini, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be David Hudson, Trent Huey, George Thompson, Dr. Steve Raley, Wayland Ferguson, Judge Rex Davis, and Joe Hudson.
