Laverne Townsend

Laverne Townsend February 9, 1932 - April 30, 2011 Laverne Townsend of Waco passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Laverne was born February 9, 1932, in Brownwood, Texas, to Bill and Alice Canon. She was a telephone operator in her early years and worked for Mongomery Wards and Word Inc. for many years, until her retirement. She married Darrell Townsend of Bartlett, Texas, May 29, 1954. Laverne loved the Lord and has been a long time member of Lake Shore Church of Christ. She also loved her Dallas Cowboys and was a wonderful woman, mother and friend, who always put others before herself. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Townsend Rodriguez and her husband, Jimi; son, Bruce Townsend; grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Rodriguez, Heather Warren, Jarrett and Weston Townsend; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, William R.
