Lawrence A. Ducas May 17, 1916 July 24, 2013 Lawrence A. Ducas passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013. A Chapel Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. James Cotten officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, July 26, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Mr. Ducas was born May 17, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ducas. He was reared and educated in Waco. He served 13 years in the Texas National Guard 143rd Infantry and was in the Waco Police Reserves for 35 years, where he served as a Captain. In 1993, Mr. Ducas retired from Olmsted-Kirk Paper Company after 48 years as a sales representative. He received the National Paper Trade Association's Golden Eagle Award for over 48 years of service. As an active member of the H-O-T Horseless Carriage Club, he enjoyed restoring and driving his 1922 Baby Overland, 1942 Packard and his 1961 Studebaker. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers for 35 years. Mr. Ducas was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church and served as an usher at the 11:00 a.m. Mass for over three decades. He and Daphine Bugg Ducas were married June 27, 1936. Mrs. Ducas preceded him in death in 1998, after 62 years of marriage. After Mrs. Ducas' death, Mr. Ducas became a regular customer to the Health Camp at the Circle. The manager and employees went on to name him as their "Social Director and Public Relations Man" because of his great love for them and the many customers he greeted and visited with nightly. His picture still hangs on the wall there. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Daphine; two sisters, Virginia Ewell of Greenville and Josephine Erck Troutt of Waco; one brother, Samuel Ducas of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and son-in-law, Tommy Lowry of Waco. Survivors include their only child, daughter, Sue Ducas Lowry of Waco; one grandson, Michael L. Lowry and wife, Darla, of Mansfield; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lowry Roach and husband, Phil, of Hewitt; five great-granddaughters, April Glasgow and husband, Jarred, Ashley and Amber Lowry of Mansfield, Ashton Roach Neubert and husband, Jacob, and Rachel Roach and great-grandson, Jimmy Peyton Roach, both of Hewitt; and great-great granddaughter, Chloe Sudbury of Mansfield. Pallbearers are Bob O'Beirne, Billy Wilson, Brian Bennet, Royce Walston, Glen Chaneyworth, Mike Lowry, Phil Roach and Charles Murphy. Honorary pallbearers are member of the Waco Founder Lions Club and the H-O-T Horseless Carriage Club.
