Lawrence R. Bowers passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room with Rev. James Baldridge, his nephew, officiating. Visitation will precede the Memorial Service from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. A private burial will take place on Monday. Lawrence was born May 27, 1925, in Greenville, Texas, to Claud and Eva Jane Bowers. Lawrence was educated in Commerce, Texas, at what is now known as Texas A&M Commerce. He served three years in the Navy during World War II. Lawrence retired from Waco ISD after 37 years of teaching. He was a longtime Mason, and received his 60-year pin from the Grand Lodge of Texas, where he was a member of Waco Lodge No. 92. He was devoted to his wife, Melba for over 70 years. The family would like to thank Heartis Waco, Living Springs Village, and the Lucy Lupu family for their kindness and for their caring of both Lawrence and Melba. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Melba; two daughters, Patricia Kay Bowers and Linda Fisseler and husband, Dale; three grandchildren, Jeff Parham, Stephanie Windhorst and husband, Zach, and Ben Fisseler; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Gage Windhorst; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Shriner Burn Hospital for Children in Galveston, The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Crossover Restoration Foundation in Fort Worth, or Lakewood Christian Church in Waco.
