Leighton F Cannon

LEIGHTON CANNON Leighton F. Cannon, 77, died Friday, February 8, 2002 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be 10:30am Monday, February 11, at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Myers officiating. A memorial service will follow at Lakewood Christian Church at 1:00pm. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Sunday February 10 at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Cannon was born February 12, 1924 in Hill County. He attended Hillsboro High School and Hillsboro Junior College. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corp. He married Patti A. Marshall on August 8, 1944 at Central Christian Church in Hillsboro. After the war he started to work for the then Texas Highway Department, where he started at the bottom and worked his way up. He retired in 1984 after serving 38 years. He had served as Resident Engineer in McLennan, Bosque, Hamilton and retired from Coryell County. He was a board member of the Department of Transportation District #9 Credit Union for a number of years. Mr. Cannon participated in a Ham Radio program called 7290 Traffic Net. A very active member of Lakewood Christian Church, he had been an Elder and was also supervisor of the construction of the new sanctuary. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Angela Beth Cannon. Survivors: wife of 57 years, Patti A. Cannon of Waco; daughter, Karon Glass & husband Butch of Waco; son, Rodney M. Cannon & wife Judy of Huntsville; grandchildren, Leigh-Ann Sanders, Leighton Wade Lear, Laura-Leigh Cannon, Lisa Cannon; great grandchildren, Jeffrey King, Grant Leighton King, Price Sanders, Zoe Sanders & Leighton Carter Lear. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lakewood CMF, Ham Radio Operators, Credit Union Board, & Texas Department of Transportation Employees. Memorials may be made to Lakewood Christian Church.
