Lemuel David Lewis Jr. of Clifton, Texas, passed away Friday April 1, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. Cremation rites have been performed and no immediate services are planned. A memorial will be held later in Galveston, Texas, where he wished to rest. David’s lifelong passion was music. He was an immensely talented guitarist and songwriter who’d found great success in the Country Music arena. He’d been the recipient of multiple gold records for the many songs that country artists had recorded including a Top Ten and a Number 1 hit. He was greatly loved and respected by his peers in the industry. He is universally remembered as a gentle, kind, unassuming and loving man who wanted nothing more than to follow his muse and craft country songs. Thankfully he left us many by which we may remember and venerate not only his talent but the man behind it as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. L.D. Lewis Sr. and Darlene Doris (Weaver) Lewis; his younger brother and best friend, Michael Lee Lewis, of Waco, Texas; his daughter, Heather Naomi Lewis; and an infant son, Lemuel David Lewis III. He is survived by two brothers, Nathan Lewis and wife, Miquele, of Windham, ME and Dean Lewis of Nashville, TN; sister, Amy Nuckles and her husband, Craig, of Moline, IL; two sons, Justin Lewis of St. Louis, MO and Colin Lewis of Nashville, TN; a grandson, Chase Thornal and great granddaughter, Naomi Thornal, both of Temple, TX;as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins galore! In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to My Brother’s Keeper Shelter and The Church Under the Bridge, Waco, TX, both wonderful organizations to which we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude that we cannot hope to repay. Our lives are at once enriched for knowing him and made bereft by his passing. We won’t soon see his like again. Goodnight, Sweetheart.
