Leo A. Yankie May 24, 1912 - January 8, 2010 Leo A. Yankie of Waco passed away Friday, January 8, 2010. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 10, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room with Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 -2:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Leo was born May 24, 1912 in China Spring, Texas, on the family farm to Grover and Zola Yankie. He retired after 30 years from Owens Illinois Glass Plant. Leo was a long time active member of First Baptist Church of Hewitt. He and Evelyn were married in 1932; they enjoyed traveling and playing "42" with members of their church group. He especially enjoyed gardening, even up until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Evelyn; his son, Jimmy Ray Yankie; grandson, Robert Bobby Wayne Yankie; two brothers, Willie Mike Hossie Yankie; and H.A. Boots Yankie. He is survived by his granddaughter, Joan Yankie; great granddaughters, Robin Yankie; Lisa Hardin and husband, Sam. Also surviving are nieces, Nancy Sidarous and Gay Sidarous and nephew, Wayne Yankie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hewitt.
