Leo Clarence Nichols passed away July 31, 2021, at home. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, with Visitation at 6:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Msgr. Bill Brooks officiating. Burial will follow on August 6, with a service at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Burial Park North in San Antonio, Texas. Leo was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up both in the San Antonio and Corpus Christi areas. He graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1955 and attended St. Mary’s Law School and the University of Texas in Austin. Leo worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 17 years and reached the level of Division Chief. He left the IRS in 1978 to own and operate a Burger King restaurant in Waco. After selling that business, he started his own business, AccuComp, where he did accounting work and filed income tax returns for numerous Waco businesses and local residents. Leo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He particularly loved to do anything with his family, fish, and garden. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Nichols, and his brother Charles Nichols II. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Nichols; sister, Judy Adams and her husband James; son, Kurt Nichols and his wife Liza; son, Brian Nichols; son, David Nichols and his wife Cheryl; daughter, Lee Ann Waltz and her husband Cameron. Other survivors include his grandchildren Penny Finn, Stephanie Nichols, Aleah Nichols, Rachael Nichols, Zoe Neuman, Austin Nichols, Emily Waltz, and Connor Waltz, as well as great-grandchildren Kimber Finn, Huck Finn, Rhett Neuman, and Leo Neuman. Pallbearers will be sons Kurt Nichols, Brian Nichols and David Nichols, son-in-law Cameron Waltz, and grandsons Austin Nichols and Connor Waltz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth Connection at P.O Box 20984, Waco, TX 76702.
