Leo M. Dewitt

DEWITT, LEO M. Leo M. DeWitt, 93 of Waco, died Monday, December 20, 2004. Masonic graveside services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, December 22 at Rosemound Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Martin and Waco Masonic Funeral Committee officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Tuesday, December 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mr. DeWitt was born June 23, 1911 in Troy, Ohio and grew up in Muncie, Indiana. He attended Muncie High School. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and Korean Conflict where he was a master mechanic in the Army Engineering Division. After his initial military service was over, he was called back into service to teach mechanics to others. He married Ruth Van Arman April 24, 1943; she preceded him in death May 13, 2003. He moved to Waco 1955. He worked as an auto mechanic at Rountree Motors for several years and then was self employed. He also was at Waco City Parks and Recreation Department for several years. Mr. DeWitt was a member of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member of the choir for many years. He was Past Master of J. H. Gurley Masonic Lodge #337 and was also a member of Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies and Karem Shrine Temple. Survivors include sisters, Rosalind Kaysen and Gwendolyn Jarrell both of Waco; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, A. J and Dorothy Van Arman, Jr. of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
