Leslie Wayne Mooring, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Providence Hospital in Waco. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, with family friend John Price officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Wayne, as he was known to everyone, was born November 2, 1943, in Eureka, North Carolina. He grew up in Eureka, graduating from Charles B. Aycock High School in Pikeville, North Carolina. Wayne served four years in the Air Force, completing his service at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. There, he met and married Mina P. Taylor on June 26, 1965. He later attended McMurray College in Abilene, receiving his BBA in 1969. Wayne was an ordained deacon at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco, where he and his wife were longtime members. At the time of his passing, they were members of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Over the years, Wayne enjoyed gardening, his pets, trips back home to North Carolina, cruises with friends, and playing 42 and 84, but most of all, his role as Pappy and Granddaddy. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul R. Mooring; mother, Louise Chase Mooring; and brothers, Paul L. Mooring and Leon V. Mooring. He is survived by his wife, Mina Taylor Mooring; daughter, Laura Mooring Gebbert, and husband, Jeffrey, of Sweeny, Texas; son, Marcus Wayne Mooring and wife, Rebecca, of Madison, Alabama; grandsons, Paul Gebbert and Luke Gebbert; granddaughters, Katie Gebbert Young and husband, John, Carolina Mooring, and Cadence Mooring; and great-grandsons, Bingham Young and Potter Wayne Young. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
