Les Fisseler, a loving husband, father and brother, will not be counted in the next U.S. Census, having peacefully passed from this realm on October 15, 2021, in Waco, Texas, his home for six decades. He was born in Shiner, Texas, on the October 5, 1930, to Otto and Anna Fisseler. After attending public school in his hometown, Les attended the Texas Agricultural & Mechanical College in College Station, Texas, and graduated sans honors with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. Les immediately secured employment with the City of Waco, contributing his engineering expertise to several public works projects. Later in the decade, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department. Les was a registered professional engineering and registered surveyor. He concluded his 36-year career with the state in 1993, retiring as the District Design Engineer. During his 41-year professional career, Les was also a popular instructor at Baylor University in the mathematics department, teaching algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry and calculus to evening class students. Throughout his adult life, was a dedicated member of Waco’s Central Presbyterian Church, serving for innumerable years as elder, trustee and clerk of session. He was also a member of Rotary International for many years. Following his retirement, Les busied himself with numerous volunteer efforts, witnessed by his recognition for service as the Assistant State Coordinator of the 55 Alive mature driver training program. Soon after relocating to Waco, Les met the love of his life, Marilyn Joyce Woodum, and they married in November of 1955. The two were inseparable for 67 years and renowned for their ballroom dancing prowess in later years. A highly engaged father, Les introduced his sons to miniature airplanes, remote controlled cars, mini-bikes, powerboats, waterskiing, and fishing. He was an early adopter of all things technological - portable televisions, transistorized pocket radios, electronic calculators, and desktop computers. And he knew well the joys of grandfather-hood and great-grandfather-hood. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Joyce Fisseler; sons, Gene Fisseler and wife, Jan, Dale Fisseler and wife, Linda; granddaughter, Stephanie Windhorst and husband, Zachary, granddaughter Allison Thompson and husband, Seth; grandson, Ben Fisseler; great-grandchildren, Avery, Gage, Susannah, and Everett, and numerous nieces and nephews.
