Lewis Harold Wunderlich March 24, 1934 - March 15, 2014 Pastor Lewis Harold Wunderlich of Bruceville, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at St. Mark Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Price officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hamilton Aleman, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Lewis was born March 24, 1934, in Waverly, Iowa, the first of three sons of Pastor Harold Wunderlich and his wife, Edna Bruenger Wunderlich. He was made a child of God's grace in the waters of Holy Baptism in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bremer, Iowa where his father was pastor. Lewis confirmed his Baptismal Covenant with the Triune God on Palm Sunday, March 21, 1948. His Confirmation Verse is "Whosoever shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 10:32, KJV. During his childhood his father accepted calls to Fredericksburg, Iowa and Beecher, Illinois where he attended Lutheran parochial schools. He attended High School and College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1959. Before moving to his first assigned call, a dual parish in Hackensack & Backus, Minnesota he married Registered Nurse Edith Mary Chapin of Willow Springs, Missouri who had graduated from Nursing School that spring. He and Mary had three daughters, Jeanette, Cynthia and Deborah. In 1984, Mary was called to our home in heaven. Two years later Pastor Wunderlich married Frances Kurz Busch, the widow of Pastor Victor Kurz. Pastor Wunderlich was preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children, Edith Mary Chapin Wunderlich; and his brothers, Robert and Richard Wunderlich. He is survived by his wife, Frances Wunderlich of Bruceville, TX; daughters, Jeanette Wheeler of Waco, TX, Cynthia Howard and husband, Richard of Cedar Falls, IA, and Deborah Dyer of Springfield, MO; eight granchhildren and seven great grandchildren;and two nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2000 Clay Avenue, Waco 76706 or charity of choice.
