Lewis Michael Manchen of Waco passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Dallas at Laurel Land Cemetery South with Wes Price officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Lewis was born February 20, 1920 in Dallas, to Louis and Anna Manchen. Early on in life he began working with his father and brothers in carpentry and construction. He and Helen Davis met and married in 1939. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII. After the war Lewis became an independent contractor in residential and commercial construction and later operated a cabinet shop, retiring at the age of 80. Lewis and Helen have been lifelong members of the Churches of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and six brothers. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Jeanette Manchen; and daughter, Jean Hooten and husband, David; granddaughter, Kate; grandson, Joseph and wife, Lori; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Louisa; and his sister, Louise Vickers.
