Libbie Lucille Combs

February 11, 1923 — April 14, 2005

Libbie Lucille Combs, 82, of Arlington, formerly of Waco, passed on to be with the Lord on April 14, 2005. She had been living nearby her two sons in the Arlington area. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Waco Memorial North, with the Rev. Donald Olson officiating. Mrs. Combs was born February 11, 1923 in Corsicana, Texas. Many in the Waco area knew her as Lucy. Most of her early years were spent attending grade school and high school in Waco. Waco was always dear to her heart and she considered Waco as a place of special interest to God. After high school and while visiting her father, Ernest Busby, in Ajo, Arizona, she met and soon married Quentin R. Combs from Winchester, Kentucky. As wife to a career USAF serviceman, she spent the next 2 ½ decades maintaining the household, raising her sons, and sharing the spirit of love to all she came into contact with. She went out of her way on numerous occasions to be a witness for the Lord. She was not well known to many, but she was always real. She trusted and knew God. Her mother, Florence Downs, was also of Waco, and her stepfather, John Wesley Downs, years ago owned the “high rise” parking building across from the courthouse on Washington Ave. After Lucy’s husband retired in the early 1960’s, she returned to her hometown of Waco and enjoyed numerous years here with neighbors. Later in life and in failing health, she moved to Denton, Texas. There she lived with her son, Ray, and grandson, Richard. It was always considered a blessing by her family to have her present with them. In her final 2 ½ years of life, she resided at IHS of Arlington. There she was virtually visited daily by her son, Gordon, of Arlington. Libbie Lucille is survived by her sons, Quentin Ray Combs of Denton and Gordon Combs of Arlington; two grandsons, Stephen Combs and Quentin Richard Combs; and many others dear to her in friendship.
