Pauline Crumpler August 11, 1917-January 21, 2008 Lillie Pauline Reid Crumpler, 90, of Waco died Monday, January 21, 2008, at Lake Shore Estates Retirement Center. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Ernie Christie and Fred McNiel officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Paris, Texas, in the Moore Springs Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family receives friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wed. Jan. 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey and 12:00-1:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at the College Church of Christ in Paris. Mrs. Crumpler was born August 11, 1917, in Reno, TX, to M.M. Reid and Elizabeth Mae Snell Reid. She grew up in Lamar County and graduated from Paris High School and Paris Junior College. After one year teaching, she entered Harding College, Searcy, Arkansas, graduating in 1941 with a B.S. degree. In 1952, she received her M.S. degree from East Texas State University in Commerce. She taught school in Jennings, Lehman, Blossom, Paris and Whiteface, TX. In 1947, while teaching in Lamar County, she served as president of the Lamar County Chapter of the Association for Childhood Education ACE. In 1952, Mrs. Crumpler began teaching in the Waco Independent School District where she served as a teacher, supervisor, and principal for Special Education. After retirement from WISD in 1975, she taught first grade at Waco Christian School for seventeen years. Mrs. Crumpler received many honors while teaching in Waco. Some of those awards and certificates received were: WARC Appreciation Plaque; American Health Care Association Certificate; Special Leadership Award give by Kirk Wilson School Faculty; WSC Appreciation Award; and Organization Certificate of Honor give by Jefferson Special School. She, also, received Honorary Life membership in the Jefferson Special School PTA. In 1975, Mrs. Crumpler received the prestigious Texas Association of Retarded Citizen Recognition Special Award. In 1975, Mrs. Crumpler began teaching first grade at Waco Christian School. At WCS, she received the Waco Christian 1001 Award, was recipient of a Civitan Club Award for outstanding service, and a Meritorious Service Award. In 1987, she received a Palma Smiley Certificate Award in recognition of her dedication and devotion to the Teaching of Young Children. In 1990, she was honored by the Waco Christian School for 50 years of teaching. In 2003, Texas Christian Academy, formerly Waco Christian, selected Mrs. Crumpler as the first recipient of the Warrior Spirit Award presented by the Alumni Association. She was a faithful member of the Lakeshore Church of Christ, where she taught classes for all ages including a ladies class. She was loved by all who knew her and was a good Christian example for others to follow. The Elders of Lakeshore congregation showed their love and appreciation by presenting her with an appreciation plaque for years of service as a Bible class teacher. Lillie Pauline Reid and Elmer John Crumpler were married on August 2, 1969, and lived in Waco and China Spring. Mr. Crumpler died November 23, 1990. In 1998 Mrs. Crumpler moved to the Lake Shore Estates in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters: Lanna Mae Skidmore, Lorena Bills, and Lou Ellen Hayes; brothers: Herbert Reid and Earl Reid. She is survived by a niece, Ophelia Payne and husband, Paul, of Paris; nephews: Ernest Bills of Tulsa, OK; Charles Bills and wife, Juanita, of Abilene; and Richard Reid and wife, Barbara, of Tustin, CA; several great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Pauline Crumpler Foundation, c/o Brian Payne, 30215 Live Oak Trail, Georgetown, TX 78633.
