Lin Mills, 92, retired reporter, photographer and newspaper editor, of Waco, Texas, died Thursday, August 11, 2016. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Thursday, August 18, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Linwood was born December 9, 1924, in Lufkin, Texas, to William and Jesse Mills. Mills, a resident of Waco for 47 years, retired in 1988 as city editor of The Waco Tribune-Herald where he worked for 17 years. He received his journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 and went to work for The Taylor Daily Press where he remained for 12 years as reporter, photographer and editor before joining The Cuero Record as managing editor. In 1964, he became news editor and later managing editor of The Texas City Sun. Mills served as city editor and managing editor of The Galveston Daily News from 1966 until 1970 when he joined the Waco Tribune-Herald. He was elected president of the Taylor Lions Club in 1957 and 40 years later, in 1997, he was elected president of the Waco Founder Lions Club. He received the founder club’s Lion of the Year award and the Club President Excellence Award from Lions International. He also received the Melvin Jones Fellow award from Lions International. Mills served as chairman of the club’s public relations committee for approximately 16 years. He served three years as a glider pick-up operator during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents. A native of Lufkin, Texas, Mills is survived by his wife, the former Claudene Warner and one daughter, Rebecca Lynn. Memorials may be made to Waco Founder Lions Club.
