Lois Carol Hughes May 9, 1915 - December 1, 2010 Lois Carol Hughes of Waco passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, at Rosemound Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, December 5, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Lois was born May 9, 1915, in Cleburne, Texas, to Chastain Wesley and Sue Willis Payne Hughes. She graduated from Waco public schools, valedictorian of her class. She then attended Baylor University on academic scholarship. Lois later attended Central City Commercial College. After graduation, she began working at the Methodist Home. Later she continued her career as administrative assistant to Mr. Hubert Johnson until her retirement. Lois' interests lay in family genealogy and history, Texas history and current affairs, cooking, writing, and reading. Miss Hughes was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wray, Waddie, and Virgil Hughes; her sisters, Katherine Hughes and Marian Hughes McGhee; and nephew, John Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Sue Margaret Hughes; and by nieces and nephews, Betty Ruth Hughes King, Thomas Payne Hughes, Linda Hughes Huestis, Sallie Sue Hughes, Carol Hughes Waters, Mary Griffin Hughes, Robert Hughes, Elise McGhee Pullman, Leslie William Miller, Steven Robert Miller, Wray Hughes, Sarah Hughes Breedlove, Jonathan Hughes, Stephen Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes Anderson, Dana White Rogers, Luke Breedlove, Diana Hughes, and Logan Breedlove. Miss Lois Hughes lived her life with strength, integrity, dignity, grace, selflessness, and a great love of family.
