Londa Fern Lindloff of Waco passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Ridgecrest Retirement and Health Care after a lengthy illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at First United Methodist Church of Waco with the Reverend Wayne Williams officiating. An interment ceremony for the family will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Fern was born July 22, 1924, in Kennedale, Texas, delivered by her father, John A. Hammack, a country doctor. Along with her mother, Velma Sansing Hammack, seven brothers and one sister, she spent her early days in a close-knit, sometimes raucous, family. She received an Associate’s degree from North Texas Agricultural College (now the University of Texas at Arlington). In 1942, at Glen Rose Methodist Church Camp, she met Paul Lindloff, fell in love, and married in 1943 just prior to his departure for Europe during World War II. After his return, they began a family in Waco with two sons, Gary and Keith. Her family life took her to Houston, Austin, Durham NC, Mobile AL, College Station TX and Huntsville, TX, following Paul’s career as a college professor. In 1987, Paul and Fern returned to Waco in retirement to begin a very active life with family and friends, including church activities at Central Methodist and First Methodist, (notably the Odell Dudley Sunday School class and numerous Walks to Emmaus), Mission Waco service and the renewal of friendships with wartime comrades at reunions of the 74th Troop Carrier Squadron. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, John A. Hammack and Velma Lee Hammack, all of her eight siblings and her husband, Paul William Lindloff, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Gary Lindloff of Waco, Keith Lindloff and wife, Patti, of Houston; grandchildren, Kent Lindloff of Austin, Paula Lindloff of Arlington and Josh Lindloff of Sugar Land; numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family through marriage. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mission Waco, 1315 N. 15th, Waco, 76707. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
