Lonzo Luther Simons July 7, 1919 - December 4, 2013 L.L. "Lonnie" Simons of Waco passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at his son's home in Waco. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Funeral Home. Mr. Simons was born July 7, 1919, in Falls County, Texas, to Lee and Alice Tull Simons. He was one of six children who all preceded him in death. Lonnie was hard working and a man of his word. He lived many years in the Rosenthal and Robinson areas. In 1947, he opened a garage and service station in Rosenthal. He closed the business in 1969 and went to work for McLennan County Garage, where he retired as foreman in 1984. In more recent years, he enjoyed raising cattle on his son's land in Valley Mills. Lonnie enjoyed the outdoors, and spent over 50 years hunting and fishing in Colorado, Texas Hill Country, Lake Waco and the Brazos River. Some of his best memories were fishing with his cousin, the late Charlie "Seagull" Tull, and hunting with the late Jim Radle. He was a member of Golinda Baptist Church. Lonnie was married to Maud Hickox on September 23, 1939, and she preceded him in death, July 31, 1997. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Wacel. Mr. Simons is survived by his daughter, Jennie Joyce Simons May and husband, Ray, of Woodway; and sons, Truman Lee Simons of Waco and Randy R. Simons and wife, Patricia, of Valley Mills. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Renay Gwin and husband, Roger, of Woodway, Kelly DiCorte and husband, Billy, of China Spring, Jason Simons and wife, Kate, of Austin, Rebecca Simons and Adrianna Simons of Valley Mills; and three great grandchildren, Logan Gwin, Kellsy Macdonald, and Kris Macdonald.
