LORENE ATWOOD Lorene Owens Atwood, 92, of Waco, went to her Lord on Friday, December 14th 2001. Services will be at 9:30am on Monday, December 17th at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY Bosque Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Bill Agee and Rev. Michael O. Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 16th from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Atwood was born December 2, 1909 in the community of Victoria in Limestone County to George and Lular Owens. She attended school in Ben Hur. She was married to Jack Mills in 1925 in Marlin. She later married R.E. Dick Atwood in 1942 in New York City. After Dick and Lorene married they served faithfully at Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years and later at Western Heights Baptist Church. While at Emmanuel, she served as adult director and at Western Heights as secretary of the adult department. Lorene had a powerful testimony of how God delivered her from alcoholism. She told her story in Baptist Home Life in 1956 and worked with Elsie Maynard at Emmanuel helping others. Mrs. Atwood was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter Betty Jean VanCleave, two grandsons Kerry Wayne Thompson and Billy Jack Mills and her brother Alton Owens. Survivors are her son Billy Earl Mills & wife Bobbie of Waco; five grandsons, Billy Ragsdale of Robinson, Barry Koehne & wife Sherri of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rick Thompson & wife Sue Ann of Lubbock, Doug Mills & wife Valeria of Hewitt, Keith Mills & wife Robyn of Woodway; 12 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; sisters, Opal Tusa of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Allie Mae Bearden of Brownfield, Texas; and 6 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Curt Lindsey, Adrian Smith, Jack Beckworth, Claude Hopkins, Alan Schmedhorst and Don Guest. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Tucker, B.F. Mansell, Clement Goode and Harold Osborne. Memorials may be made to Western Heights Baptist Church or Emmanuel Baptist Church. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
