Loris Dyer March 6, 1924 May 18, 2008 Loris Salty Verba Dyer, 84, of Waco, passed away May 18, 2008, at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend Carl Freeto officiating. Mrs. Dyer was born March 6, 1924, in Olivet, Kansas, to William S. Duncan and Myra Sanderson Duncan. She was one of nine children. She attended school in Kansas and was valedictorian of her senior class. She served as a Navy Wave from 1944 to 1945 where she played basketball and softball. She met James Jack W. Dyer at the Dallas Naval Air Station, and they were married in Dallas, Texas, on April 20, 1945. Her favorite pastimes included playing games, "slingshotting," reading, bowling, watching sports, and spending time with her family and numerous friends. She attended Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Galilean Class for 45 years. She delivered meals for the "Meals on Wheels" program for several years, and she retired from K-Mart in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years. Survivors include sons, Michael J. Dyer and Debbie Stewart of Cushing; Billy V. Dyer and wife, Jimmie, of Waco; Randy B. Dyer and wife, Ann, of Lorena; and Melvin L. Dyer of Waco; grandchildren, Chris Dyer and wife, Amanda; Robin L. Newman and husband, Connally; Michelle Kennedy; Maria Douzart and husband, Daryl; Connie Dyer Corn; Tavi Dyer; four great grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church of Waco; the American Cancer Society or to Hillcrest Hospice.
