BARBER, LOUIS EUGENE GENE Louis Eugene Gene Barber, age 68, of Mart died Monday, July 7, 2003 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 9:30am Saturday, July 12 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Masonic and military burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Friday, July 11 at the funeral home. Mr. Barber was born in Hearne December 20, 1934 to Alma and Henry Barber. He attended school at South Junior in Waco, West High School and was a graduate of Waco High in 1953. He went into the U.S. Air Force, was stationed in England, where he met and married his wife, Joan Elizabeth Barton, October 1, 1955. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a M/Sgt. and returned to Waco. They then moved to Mart. He also retired from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department as a Lieutenant, served as a bomb tech, I.A.B.T.I. for the sheriff’s department. He was also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in 1982, a member of J. H. Gurley Masonic Lodge #337, and a life member of V. F. W. Lodge #10426 in Mart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gilbert Allen Barber. Survivors include wife, Joan Elizabeth Barber of Mart; son, Michael David Barber and wife, Natalia of Jupiter, Florida; granddaughter, Nadya Dee Barber; brothers-in-law and wives, Peter and Maureen Barton and Denis and Mary Barton; nephew, Terry Allen Barber; and niece, Cindy Berry. Pallbearers will be Larry Abraham, Albie Koen, Larry Lynch, Steve Smith, Brian Brewer, and Joe Kubitza. All active and retired members of sheriff’s office as honorary pallbearers.
