Louisa Belle Mehaffey

May 23, 1908 — March 14, 2001

Louisa Mehaffey Mrs. A.J. died March 14, 2001 at a local nursing home. Her husband, A. J. Mehaffey, precedes her in death. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Oakwood Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Robert Cavanaugh of Austin Avenue Methodist Church will be officiating. There will be a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 1124 Washington Ave. Mrs. Mehaffey was born in 1908 in Sweetwater, Texas. She was best known for the impact she had on the many students she taught throughout her life. Louisa was a professor of English and French. She was also a graduate of Baylor Law School. She was instrumental in incorporating and naming the city of Woodway, was a member of Austin Avenue Methodist Church since she was in high school and a member of Rainbow Lake Corporation. She was very active in the community in her earlier years serving in many volunteer organizations. Survivors include a daughter, Merlenna Mehaffey of Woodway, a son and daughter-in-law, John M. And Jeanette Mehaffey of Houston, a sister, Ella Merle Kirby of Wichita Falls, a brother Walter B. Morgan of Houston, a sister-in-law Virginia Morgan of Houston. Her grandchildren include Cyndy Davis of Carrollton, Roger and Kim Kincaid of Sanger, Sam and Tammy Whatley of Bridge City, James and Kristi Graham of Plano, John M. Mehaffey Jr. and Jeff M. Mehaffey of Houston and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tejas Council of Camp Fire, 1826 Morrow Ave. Waco, Texas 76707 or Austin Avenue Methodist Church. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
