Louise Daly

DALY, LOUISE Louise Daly, age 98, of Waco died Monday, November 25, 2002, at a local nursing facility. Services will be held at 11:30am Friday, November 29, at Austin Ave. United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Kyle Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Daly was born October 21, 1904, in Cameron, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Powell O. Adams. She graduated from Yoe High School and received voice scholarships to Baylor College at Belton, Texas, and to the Washington School for Girls in Washington D.C. She also studied under Professor Robert Hopkins at Baylor. At Baylor College she majored in vocal music, English and art, and she sang solos and performed with the Baylor Choirs throughout Central Texas. She was supervisor of music for the Rio Grande School districts of Pharr, McAllen, and Mission, Texas. For thirty-eight years she taught sixth grade at North Waco and Lake Waco Elementary Schools, plus directing the sixth grade choirs and producing numerous pageants, choir programs, and May fetes. She was also a co-director of the WISD Boy’s Choir. She was the last living member of “The Old North Guard”, a group of teachers who taught under Miss Nettie Bird at North Waco Elementary in the 1930’s and 1940’s. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher sorority and was awarded a life membership in the PTA for the inspiration and encouragement she gave to many young students and practice teachers. Mrs. Daly was a life-long Methodist and a member of Austin Ave. Methodist Church for sixty-five years where she directed the youth choirs for several years. She was the last living member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Carol Mansfield, her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Adams, a brother, George Adams of Waco, a nephew, John Adams of Dallas, brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Bernice Adams of Lampasas, Texas, Art and Lorraine Adams of Dallas, Texas, sisters Elizabeth Adams and Minnie Adams, and a brother, Walter Adams. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Mansfield of Waco; sister-in-law, Mrs. George Adams of Waco; grandchildren, Susan and Rebecca Mansfield; granddaughters and their respective husbands, Donna and Rick Francis and Nancy and Keith Jimenez of San Antonio; nieces, Memie Hardie, Marcia Trammell and Linda Fulenwider of Dallas and great grandchild, Richard Francis of San Antonio and nephew, Chris Fulenwider of Dallas. She was a beloved teacher, but most of all a beloved caregiver to many members of her family to whom she passed on a love of music, art, and gardening.
