Lucile Cooper Lacy Taylor January 8, 1923 August 22, 2009 Lucile Cooper Lacy Taylor passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 22, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26th at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Lucy was born January 8, 1923, in Waco at Hillcrest Hospital to Lucile Roane Cooper and Walter Garner Lacy, Sr. She was a 4th generation Texan and 3rd generation Wacoan. She attended Waco's Sanger Avenue Elementary and West Jr. High, before attending The Hockaday School in Dallas. She then went to St. Stephens College, Wellsley College, and graduated from the University of Texas with a B.A. in Art History. At Texas she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma and was a member of the FOOS. During the war years she served as a nurse's aide and a member of the Motor Corp who drove the "Gray Ladies" to the VA Hospital in Temple. In 1945 she met Julius Red Taylor who was stationed with the Army Air Corps in Waco. They married November 17th of that year. She was active in the Junior League, a member of the Colonial Dames, on the State Board of Easter Seals and the Oakwood Cemetery Board, as well as the Providence Children's Hospital Board. She and her mother helped found MHMR in Waco and she served as President for two years. To her many friends and family Lucy was affectionately known as TuTu. She was an avid tennis player and when not on the court she could be found at her beloved family ranch in Bosque County hunting birds, shooting rattlesnakes and driving her huntmobile. TuTu was champion of her four grandchildren, Lisle, Nate, Julieanne and Wyn, and loved nothing better than their company. She will be remembered by friends and family alike for the fun and laughter she brought into each of our lives. In 1948 daughter Lucile Lacy Taylor was born, followed by sons Julius Heyward Taylor III, Madison Cooper Taylor and Goodwyn Rhett Taylor II. Lucy as preceded in death by her husband; son Madison and daughter Lacy, and two brothers, Walter and Roane Lacy. She is survived by son Julius Heyward Taylor, III, daughter-in-law Brooke Blankenbeckler Taylor and Goodwyn Rhett Taylor, II of Waco; brother Lawrence Christian Lacy, and wife KoKo of Waco; grandchildren Carlisle Taylor Whitworth and husband Scott of New York City; Nathaniel Heyward Taylor of Cape Town, South Africa; Julieanne Dorn Taylor and Goodwyn Rhett Taylor III of Ft. Worth; great-grandson Robert Rhett Whitworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Roane Lacy, Tom Lacy, Walter Lacy, David Lacy, Chris Lacy, Walter Taylor, Ed Taylor and Bruce Taylor.
