Lucille Kelley Taylor

January 16, 1927 — June 17, 2015

Lucille Clark Kelley Taylor January 16, 1927 June 17, 2015 Lucille Clark Kelley Taylor passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Waco, Texas. She was born in Lockhart, Texas, on January 16, 1927, to Lucille Clark Kelley and Alvin Elwood Kelley. A sixth generation Texan, Lucy's family arrived in Texas in 1821 with Stephen F. Austin. Tiny Lucille lost her mother in childbirth, along with her twin sister, Cecille. Alvin raised his daughter with the help of her four grandparents until his marriage to Mildred Wisian in 1929. Mildred was the only mother Lucille ever knew and she became a much beloved member of the Kelley and Clark families. Following graduation from Lockhart High School in 1945, Lucy attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. It was there she met her future husband and very best friend, William Wintford Taylor, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas. After graduating from UT with a degree in Elementary Education, Lucy and Bill were married on June 18, 1949. The early days of this life-long partnership began in the oil fields of Snyder, Texas where Lucy taught school for three years. The young couple moved to Waco in 1952 when Bill accepted a job in his uncle's lumber yard. This move proved to be their last and Waco became the only place they would ever call home. Lucy was Bill's greatest supporter and steadfast advisor as he built their family business in the construction industry. Lucy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Always generous with her affection for both family and friends, she found great joy in loving and serving others. Lucy and Bill joined St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she was an active member of the Altar Guild for over 40 years, serving as Directress from 1982-84. Lucy's love for the kitchen led her to serve as a cook for Meals and Wheels for over 20 years. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Junior League of Waco, Waco Cotton Palace and Historic Waco Foundation. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, sister and loving husband of 59 years. She is survived by her son, Ford and wife, Ellen, of Waco; daughter, Jinger Magill and husband, Bert, of Houston; granddaughter, Kelley Magill of Houston and grandson, Brett Magill and wife, Stephanie of Houston. Having been blessed with exceptional caregivers, Lucy's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Lucy Lupu and Dina Lupu Gradinaru of Waco, the entire staff at Belmont Village Hunters Creek in Houston and the Houston Hospice. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Lucy's name be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 515 Columbus Avenue, Waco, TX 76701; Meals and Wheels, P.O. Box 85, Waco, TX 76703; or Camp Allen, 18800 F.M. 362, Navasota, TX 77868. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
